Amelia Island, FL: Cape House
Courtesy of Cape House
I visited this dreamy little home shop three times in three days. In the beginning, I was just trying to sidestep an aggressive retirement crowd lining up for free prime rib samples in the Harris Teeter next door. The line went well past the hot and cold cases, and into the homemade breads. And they don’t like it when you cross through the line to get to, for instance, the wine section.
Anyway, my mother and I ducked into Cape House just to wait it out (or until the cops came, whichever was first), and I got it right away. This was my prime rib. Its west coast influences are apparent (sculptural white pottery, plenty of organic woods), but its sense of belonging is sophisticated Florida beach. Everything from clutches to kitchen accessories, high-end upholstery to nautical paintings are well-curated and interesting, and prices are super reasonable (I got two pillows for half off $45 apiece). I loved their take on beach house style: easygoing but very light on the starfish and anchors, if you get my drift. It’s also a full-service design outfit; go here to see some of their projects or follow them at @shopcapehouse.
